D-3.1 Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors-overview-mode of action

Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors (also known as gliptins) are a class of oral diabetes medicines that lower high blood glucose levels and may be used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. DPP-4 inhibitors block the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4).

  • Increase incretin levels.
  • Incretins are a group of metabolic hormones, released after eating, that decrease blood glucose levels by augmenting the secretion of insulin. This is a blood glucose-dependent mechanism.
